Services to Business at Wakefield College work hard to develop a real understanding of the current and future skills needs of the logistics workforce. Working with our strategic partners at Skills for Logistics, we are able to provide a specialised service to companies in West Yorkshire and beyond to effectively and efficiently meet those needs.

Our courses also touch on the transportation and Warehousing sectors. Our strong links with the industry mean that the training we have developed is relevant, cost-effective and realistically delivered to fit into this highly commercially competitive environment.

We appreciate that the nature of this constantly active industry means that your demands differ, so we work with you around shift patterns and seasonal issues to ensure you get the training which is right for you.

We can also offer help and assistance with the National Road Haulage Operator CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and the future Driver CPC regulations.
"Our Logistics Training rarely happens 'in the classroom'- we work 24/7, out in the industry, with training often consisting of sitting with drivers in their cabs"

We offer courses from NVQ in Logistics in Carrying and Delivering Goods and Traffic Office through to Driving Goods Vehicles in Levels 2 and 3 and NVQs in Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations. Another option could be courses on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods (ADR) Drivers for which we can also offer refresher courses.

Other courses include the Carriage of Dangerous Goods (ADR) for Office Staff, through to Digital Tachographs, Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED), Work Related Road Safety & Risk Management as well as the C&G Driving Goods Vehicles Technical Certificate.

We also offer Foundation Degrees in Logistics and Supply Management and also offer the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply's Graduate Diploma.

You may qualify for funding to support these courses.Click here for details.
Useful Information
In order to engage in road haulage operations, persons need to demonstrate professional competence. This is a legal requirement as laid down by EU legislation and the Department for Transport.

This is achieved by candidates attending an approved Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training course and passing OCR examinations. The examinations for Road Haulage National comprise two multiple choice papers and a case study with questions.

The three examinations cover:

Unit 1 (Code Module) - 30 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes.
Unit 2 (Freight National) - 40 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes.
Unit 4 (Case Study) - This is a 2 hour examination in which you have to answer a number of questions based on a pre-released case study.

Candidates will need to achieve a 70% pass in units 1 & 2, and a 50% pass in unit 4 to be awarded the Road Haulage National Certificate of Professional Competence.
