Childcare and PlayworkWe offer a range of qualifications to those who work with children of all ages and in most situations.

All our assessors and tutors hold Childcare and/or Playwork qualifications and have recent practical experience, so understand the different aspects of looking after children.

Our courses range from Nursery, Playgroup and Playcare levels, through to After-school care. We also have specialist courses for Teaching Assistants in the school environment, and can offer courses specialised in First Aid for Children.

All Childcare and Playwork training is financially supported by the Wakefield Sure Start Partnership. Ask for further details.
Courses Available
Child Care, Learning & Development NVQ Level 2
This qualification is for anyone working with children aged 0-16 years, in day nurseries, creches, playgroups, schools childminding. You can start your NVQ any time during the year.

Child Care, Learning & Development NVQ Level 3
This programme is for anyone who is working with children aged 0-16 years, in day nurseries, creches, playgroups, working with families and children etc. and has supervisory responsibilties. Enrolments for this course are throughout the year.

Child Care, Learning & Development NVQ Level 4
This programme is suitable for those people who are wanting a higher level work based qualification. Candidates will already be working at a management or deputy management level in a childcare setting.

Children and Young People NVQ Level 3
This for those people who work in care or foster care, working with older children and has supervisory responsibilities.

Emergency Aid Appointed Person (Childcare)
This course is for any childcarer requiring basic First Aid skills within the home or the workplace.

Child Protection
This course is a requirement for all childcare practitioners and will help to meet Standard 13 (Child Protection) of the National Standards

Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2
This programme is for people who support teachers in schools and who work largely under supervision

Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 3
Level 3 denotes competence which involves the application of knowledge and skills in a broad scope of varied activites, performed in a variety of contexts, most of which are complex and not routine.

Playwork NVQ Level 2
This course is for those who work with children in Play schemes, Holiday clubs, After School Care, etc.

Playwork NVQ Level 3
This NVQ is for those who are working with children in Play schemes, Holiday clubs, After School Care, etc. They should also be carrying some supervisory responsibility.

NCFE Certificate in Safe Handling of Medicines
This course is for anyone required to safely handle medicines within the workplace.

NCFE Level 2: Certificate in Infection Control
This course is for anyone who is involved in the prevention and control of infection within the workplace.

Playwork for Early Years and Childcare Workers (Transitional) 6978-10
If you are a qualified childcare worker employed in a Playcare (before/after school) setting, or someone who aspires to this role, this flexible course may be for you.

NCFE Certificate in Equality & Diversity Level 2
This is for anyone who would like to learn more about equality and diversity within the workplace or wants to receive initial training in equality and diversity.

Safeguarding Children and Young People Level 3 Award/Certificate
Do you work with children/families in a paid or voluntary capacity? Are you the nominated Child Protection person in your setting? Do you already hold a Level 3 qualification and wish to specialise in Safeguarding Children and Young People? If your answer is "yes" to any of these questions, then this course could be for you.

Foundation Degree in Management for Children's Care
This course is designed for people employed in supervisory roles or wishing to progress to supervisory positions in the children’s care sector. There is a large element of work-related learning incorporated into this course allowing the learner to apply the theory learnt in class to practical situations.
